Suicide of Atul Subhash made millions vicariously feel his sufferings and pain he was made to endure. Consequently, there was sudden outpouring of emotions in favor of men - a forgotten gender - and their rights be it through discussions on the T.V. channels, protest marches across India, podcasts, various social media trends and much more. It is pretty certain that one of the reasons Atul left such detailed suicide note and video was to awaken the conscience of society in this age of feminism. To some extent he succeeded but in this fast paced world, life of an awakening is usually determined by short lived social medial trends.
There is a dichotomy around if suicide is an act of cowardice or courage. But in Atul's case certainly it was a courageous act evident from the poem part of his suicide note referred below. He smiled his way to death mocking fun of feminism and system in its total grip. Now that all the hullabaloo around his suicide has died down, one wonders what Atul may be going through watching recent events taking place around his suicide from far away.
Certainly, he must be shaking his head in disgust that Hon’ble Supreme Court of India has almost shut the case of his mother to claim custody of his son. Forget about showing any sympathy or feeling the pain of his mother or even showing any respect to his last wish, she is shunted out with observation that she is stranger to her own grandson.
He could see that his brother is putting up brave front, though totally devastated, while giving TV interviews to various channels but may be that is about it. He now realizes that to bring him justice his brother and family would have to fight a long battle, adding to their suffering of loosing a family member, and outcome isn't certain. All the accused responsible for his suicide have got bail quickly and nothing substantial would happen in his abetment to suicide case any further. Attention to his suicide by public at large has died down. He realizes that apart from giving some bites to T.V. channels politicians in power are probably not going to do anything to stop suicides of men due to family problems. Organizations he was associated with probably used his story to further their business case.
Judge, he made allegations against continues to be judge in same court. Not even an inquiry, not in public domain at least, was initiated by relevant high court and she was not suspended pending inquiry. The Peshkar in the family court he made specific allegations of bribery against is continuing with his daily routine and his suicide has not brought an iota of change in functioning of judicial system. He probably could sense that maintenance per month of Rs. 40,000 and additional Rs. 40,000 per month to cover arrears he was ordered to pay, now his wife would claim from his parents and brother in Domestic Violence case and there is a high possibility maintenance may be allowed at least for child. He finally knows that accused woman would continue to use his child as shield and weapon and her vengeance now would be against his family.
Atul Subhash is in heaven and we mortals are living in hell.
Question he may be asking to himself now, was it worth committing suicide even if that meant moving to heaven?
